30 Things I Learned During My 20’s

Over the past couple of weeks, as the time trickled down for the big day when I officially turned "thirty," I found myself with a lot of time dedicated to reflection over how I have changed in the past decade & all the things I've learned & ways in which I've grown.  I mean, I graduated college, got married, I began this blog, earned my masters degree, had two babies, and am in my 5th year of practicing as a speech language pathologist.  It's hard to imagine a decade in the future will EVER be that eventful again, right??

Well into adulthood at this point of my life, I still feel like my teenage self in many ways.  Despite that, it is easy to see the ways in which I have changed for the better.  I think that's a positive thing to cherish with age & I hope it just keeps getting better.  All that hoop-la prompted this little post of 30 things I've learned during my twenties.  I've kept this running list in the note section of my phone the last couple of weeks and jotted down my thoughts as they came to me during the reflection type moments...here goes!

1. I’ve learned to be inspired, but stay true to myself.
2. A personal heartfelt & intentional prayer life is something you have to fight for.
3. Everything in moderation.
4. A content life is the best life. We look around us, and we don’t have to look far with our social media obsessed culture, and see all these beautiful things we don’t have. It can control us if we allow it to, distracting us from the beautiful parts of our own life!  There isn’t a materialistic thing that exists that is worth drowning in debt or worrying over.
5. Love is not a feeling, love is a choice. Love is something you have to fight for everyday of your life. But it’s 100% worth the fight.
6. The second you have a baby, prepare for time to double, okay triple, in speed.
7. Waking early > staying up late (unless your babies find you😜)
8.  You can do anything you put your mind to if you seek Gods guidance & provision.  Like earn a masters degree in speech Language pathology (even though you find yourself unexpectedly pregnant halfway through the program) 😋
9. If you want to be happy, then be.
10. Don’t take yourself too seriously. (Says the most serious person ever...I’m working on it!)
11. Be thankful, but never get comfortable.
12. Coffee is a best friend & side kick.
13. Take care and value what God has blessed you with. I sit back and observe my boys with a new toy. At first, it is a cherished prized possession, but over time (and a short period of time at that) they set their eyes on another prize and that you often becomes broken, lost, or at the bottom of a toy chest. They don’t know this, but I’ve been watching my nana and papa the past years they have kept my boys, and am both amazed and influenced at how they care for what they have. I mean, anyone with a dryer as old as ME deserves respect! New isn’t always better-especially when you owe for it!
14. Home is where your family is together.
15. Technology sucks the life out of me.
16. Dinner around the table with your family with quiet and no distractions-just us, a chance to pray together, enjoy our food, and good conversation-turns out to be the most important time of the day. And when our kids will actually share vs when they are just being picked up from school/nana's😜
17. Saying no is way harder than saying yes. It takes a deeper love to do so.
18. A bubble bath can solve world problems. Okay maybe just my own!
19. Don’t be afraid to be wrong & openly admit when you are.
20. Embrace your differences respectfully.
21. Things worth having are hard work and never easy.
22. Thank you cards are important. I kinda quit after getting married but I’m going to start back. It’s the best way I know to express my appreciation & love.
23. It’s ok to take time to rest & just “be.”
24. You can’t do everything.
25. Be you and be proud of it.
26. Eating your words becomes the fourth meal.
27. Be present. I think I have to remind myself of this every second with the world of distractions we live in-but I’ll never quit.
28. There is beauty to be found in every day and every situation.
29. It doesn’t matter what people think, you will always have some who have a different opinion. Give it to God & move on!
30. And last but not least...never dread or feel sad about a number on your birthday cake! Yes, even 30😉  I once heard that the time we are currently living in is called the “present” because every day is a gift from God. I love that & think about it often.

The day I turned 20 feels like a lifetime ago. So much has happened in the last ten years and I’ve changed and grown so much. It will be fun to see what I can add to the list in the next 10 years.  Should I start a running list now??

Happy Tuesday!
*or maybe not so happy if you consider that sickness has visited our abode again

I always pick the biggest, most expensive one when I have a reward.
Anyone else?  Other than that, I'm very money savvy @ Starby's...
Also, walked outside to a winter wonderland❄️

12 p.m.
Birthday gift  card = quick easter basket run for boy's easter baskets!
(And I couldn't resist that sweet rabbit for the front porch, either...)
Can you believe Easter is just a couple of weeks away??
AHHHHHH.🐰

1 p. m.
Weekly grocery haul without stepping inside the store.  My favorite.
Also, the little guy that helped me load said everyone had been asking where the sunshine went.
His reply..."I guess the sun just has dandruff!"
So stinkin' cute.☀️❄️☺️

2 p. m.
Naptime=
I'll take a little bit of hard work toward an extra 218 calories for my cupcake.👯‍♀️

3 p.m.
Always feeding hungry boys!  I don't think this will have changed in the next ten years.
😝🥨🥓🍔🌮🍟🧀🍳🍕🍗

4 p. m.
Cupcake run!  Decisions, decisions!🤔

5 p. m.
If you think we were able to not at least let those boys test taste ONE cupcake before dinner, you are bonkers.  That's all we heard on the way home..they annihilated the extra & I quickly had to throw it in the trash before they ruined their supper.
🤤

6 p.m.
Taco night!  And I failed miserably at my first attempt for some homemade guac...
🥑🥙🌮

7 p. m.
Look who joined!

7 p.m.
Yep.  Dishes still look the same at thirty.

8 p.m.
Skipping bathtime for movie night since we have no where to be tomorrow...the boys chose Cool Runnings.  But, unless dinosaurs are eating people...we never make it through an entire movie.🦖

9 p.m.
Good night, thirty!🧖🏻‍♀️

I don’t typically make a big deal about my birthday & yes, it still felt like another day...but, I think milestone birthdays are something special.  It has been a time of great reflection for me (and yep, I have another post on that🤪). Something to celebrate!  Something that only my Heavenly Father above could gift!

I'm excited to see what happens this decade.

It will be cool to see how life changes in ten more years...huh?

Didn’t mean to get all sappy!
H A P P Y  F R I D A Y!
Also, given that my last post was at 9 pm last night...

H54F || Here Comes Tha Sun Dooo Do Do Do

And yes, I realize I said do do.
I am a boy mom.

I digress...
Happy Friday, sweet friends!
I've had a couple of people mention how I haven't posted a lot lately-fearing there might be something wrong.  Thank you for your concern!  I do have to say...this past year is the beginning of a big transition for us, not only has my Mr. been working away, but my sister who helped me in Tennessee, moved to the coast of North Carolina.  So I have pretty much been flying solo most of my days with my two little monkeys.  Without oversharing, things are about to get a lot easier than they have been the past five years (aside from Cam starting Kindergarten-HELLO homework), so I hope I can put a lot more into this little space.  After all, so much from the sweetest part of my life has been shared here.
 I can't stop, won't stop now! ;)

Highlights & Blessings this last week of February:

one. sunshine!
I am so thankful for the rain, but MAN, am I thankful to see some sunshine today!  I have missed our morning walks through the neighborhood with the warm February weather & the beginning of morning dates at the playground before it gets too hot!

two.  dinner, party of FOUR
I am quite sure, I will never again take for granted cooking at home & sitting around our little table together.  There is little in the world that makes me happier.  Something that has always been so important to me is finally coming to life.  Not only that, but tag team cooking in the kitchen with my Mr.  I think we make a pretty great team...except for last night, when Cam told us the cafeteria spaghetti was better than ours...😂
their faces...okay, i may or may not have taken this picture a thousand times trying to get the one I envisioned & it just never happened-so here's this one!

three.  a painted powder room
my mr. has been bored out of his mind not being able to work in all this rain...so since we had some paint leftover from the boys room, he decided to paint our downstairs powder room.  It looks SO good!  The walls are SO much easier to clean with a fresh coat of semi-gloss (HELLO little boys peeing-boy mom's- it's NOT pretty is it??)
Here is what I would ultimately like to see happen when we finish this space...(in ten years - HA!)  😂

four.  spring spirit
After all the warm weather, this cold rain, & realizing that the chances of a good snow in the South is just not likely anymore, I have never been more ready for Spring time.  Not to mention, we have cabin fever from sickness & rain.  I put all my bottle brush trees away last weekend, & spring is starting to trickle in the Adams Abode.
I'm definitely in the rearranging/playing decorating mode.
Also, I am sooooooooo excited to (fingers crossed) talking my Mr. into helping me making a raised garden this spring.  My nana did a little one last year, & I wanted to so bad but knew I wouldn't be home enough to take care of it.  This year, I wilL!  I have so many ideas!  I drooled over all the seed packets at Home Depot!  I just. can't. wait!
OR dream...

Also, did you guys see Joanna Gaines garden posted to instagram the other day???
Sigh...  Goals.

five.  second cup of coffee morning dollar bin run's for the win
- St. Patty's Day + Spring!
Did you catch ALL that??  I started making therapy bins for each season last summer, & I love going to the Target Dollar Bins to figure out what I can score to add to my speech activities.
I had to make a run this morning d/t the boys having not a SINGLE sippy cup - anybody else find that they vanish into thin air within a week of buying???
Well, I'm going to chase a squirrel for a second...Con informed me as soon as we got back,"Mom, member when I hid my chocolate milk in here?"  as he pulled a gatorade sippy out of Cam's Star Wars lunch box.
Oh, well...isn't that life with kids?

Whether you're a teacher, therapist, or parent, there are so many fun things you can find there...& it helps the job not get boring when you have fun activities to drag out for each season!  I found this cute leprechaun hat for an open ended artic coin toss game!

ALSO- I am avoiding these Reese eggs like the plague.
They are my drug & "I ain't doin it" this year!
Why are the holiday Reese's so much better??
Wishing you all a weekend full of sunshine (physically & spiritually!)
